ZONA ROSA PARTICIPATING IN SALES TAX HOLIDAY WEEKEND

Zona Rosa shoppers will get a break from state and local taxes this weekend during SalesTax Holiday Weekend. In addition, Zona Rosa's KidFest will provide entertainment for all at the center’s annual back-to-school event on Saturday.

KidFest is from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 and is a free party that takes place outdoors on the Zona Rosa Town Square. Join KidFest and Radio Disney by turning your dreams into reality with the Phineas and Ferb experience. Kids will have the opportunity to open a lemonade stand, play games, eat free Blue Bell Ice Cream and more.

Zona Rosa is in its eighth year participating in the state and county’s sales tax holiday and according to the developers, it is one of the busiest non-holiday weekends at the center. During the state’s sales tax holiday, certain specific back-to-school purchases, such as clothing, school supplies, computers, and other items are exempt from all sales tax Friday, Aug. 5 – Sunday, Aug. 7.

“Our merchants are thrilled that we’re participating in this event again this year,” said Rosemary Salerno, general manager of Zona Rosa. “It seems that this weekend has grown in popularity over the years as more and more residents become aware of the savings and at exactly the right time for the popular back-to-school shopping season.”

The tax-free weekend first was offered in August 2004, with the intent of giving shoppers a break on back-to-school purchases such as clothes, computers and backpacks. In 2005 Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt signed a bill making permanent the sales tax holiday during the first weekend in August each year.

The legislation automatically suspends the state's 4.225 percent sales tax throughout the weekend plus the city ofKansas CityMo. as well as Platte County also have opted to suspend sales tax for its retailers. The sales taxexemption is limited to:
Clothing – any article having a taxable value of $100 or less
School supplies – not to exceed $50 per purchase
Computer software – taxable value of $350 or less per purchase
Personal computers – not to exceed $3,500
Computer peripheral devices – not to exceed $3,500

Qualifying purchases for school are tax-free throughout the three day event.  Visit www.dor.mo.gov/tax/business/sales/taxholiday/ for more information.

See you there!
